Double, double, double down

The older wolf who had called for an opponent accepts him and Kore quickly falls into his defensive stance. He does not waste words on her telling him to be ready, the saber-tooth yearling opting to nod his understand as he readies. Bright eyes watch the older woman as she prepares, waiting for her to charge. As he scrunches the fur at his scruff, rolling his shoulders to do so, she is suddenly rushing forward, closing the gap between them.
Since Kore has only really sparred with his siblings, facing this new, taller wolf is exciting and terrifying at the same time. As she nears, the woman shifts her weight into her back legs, reminding the boy of the grizzly bear’s he has fought and how they would do that right before standing up. Sure enough, she is lifting herself off the ground in an attempt to grapple him and Kore makes the spilt second decision to react, lifting his own front end to meet her.
Bodies slam together, the older wolf wraps her legs around his neck and Kore slaps out with his paws. He aims to smack at her face and muzzle in the hopes to loosen her hold while snarling at her. Her companions appear and snarl and growl and the boy is distracted by their presence until he feels a sharp pinch to his ear. With another, stronger snarl, Kore refocuses his attention on the wolf (since the animals haven’t tried to bite him yet) and aims a bite at the underside of her neck. Nothing horrible, a pinch and release but he does want to show he means business.
