The boy felt lost without the clamour and chaos of his siblings. There was always someone else making a plan, another bigger body to follow. Now, it was just him and his towering mumma as they made their way across the black sand. Blue eyes blinked as he looked a bit closer, he had always felt kinda different to his siblings, with not a spot on him, but here with his mum, he could better see how he fit. Not that he hadn’t seen his mum every day of his life, but that he had been far too distracted by what his siblings were up to to really notice.

When she asked what he wanted to do, the boys mind ran blank and the sound of static filled his ears. Already he was used to being told what they were doing, and where they were going, and he’d never really wanted to make the decisions. Now the question had been asked of him, panic pinched the corner of his eyes. “Uhhh…” He looked quickly one way, and then the other, searching for an answer when it struck him like the tolling of a bell. “Can we go ‘splorin?” He asked with a lopsided smile and a tentative wave of his tail. Surely ‘splorin’ would be ok if mumma was with him.
