As expected she was displeased and immediately on edge, ordering Ears and Whiskers back to the den to protect the rest of their children; the newborns. “He seemed to go somewhere else in the south… but I can’t be sure if he saw me or if he was trying to throw us off. There was pup with him too - monochrome and red-streaked. I can only assume that she was his own flesh and blood. He already knew they were wasting valuable time as he raced back to the Rio Grande, where he’d watched his mate’s worst enemy walk off with their daughter.
