Hunting stars
For Rudy and Fern

Rudyard always hunted at night, well, whenever it was up to him Rudy always did his hunting at night. Sure, he came off as lazy when he slept in but the truth was it happened because Rudyard went to bed long after the sun had set. His motley pelt of grey and black helped the man merge with the shadows. The shadows tended to shift around with slight breezes and so the patchwork’s movements were a perfect fit.
The thing is, he didn’t tend to run into a lot of wolves that wanted to hunt at these hours. So many slept, and Rudyard was used to this being his peaceful contemplative time. These days that meant most of his thoughts were on Fern and their future.
This time thinking of Fern appeared to bring her into being. Coming up he spotted Fern and Jane. His eyes shift from them to the Tapir, a smug smirk coming to his face. Perhaps the reason Rudy had become a talented hunter was truly from his tackling harder targets than he ever should. It was amazing the wolf had survived all his antics of youth. A tapir had nearly pounded him into the mud once as he and Reddy had tried killing it alone.
“It’s late.” The casual remark greeted the two, a brow raised at Fern. “So, going to bed at the same time tonight? You’ll be asleep on your feet for Art’s training tomorrow.” A nod offered to Jane as well, “I thought you went to bed at reasonable hours also,” the tone in light jest before adding to them both, “so, we killing fatty over there?”
