Blue Skies and Alibis

Jack sees a momentary flicker of uncertainty in Aresenn’s expression but the boy quickly conceals it with determination. Before he trots away, the calico pup gently claps his friend on the shoulder and says, “It’s okay, you’ll do great! Just remember, this is all for fun.” With an encouraging grin, Cal gives a wink before moving away to take up his position a little way off. He states about not drawing blood and Aresenn gives his reassurance and Jack nods, knowing he will not draw blood either.

Aresenn assumes the defensive stance and Jack waits, toes spreading to grip the sand while bunching his scruff. Once his friend is ready, the calico pup pushes off, coiled muscles releasing their energy in one smooth motion. He closes the distance, moving straight toward the fire-streaked boy and not wavering. Jack charges Aresenn head on, aiming to try and bowl the pup over if he does not move. This is the first test of the stance and the patchwork pup is confident in his new friend’s ability to read the attack.
