Just breathe

Vanta squinted up at her father in suspicion as he admitted that it was indeed a mouse they were tracking. Her tiny ears flicked backwards, her tail flagging fierce as she stamped a paw. "You think I've never seen a mouse before??" The pup squeaked, betrayed. She was an expert huntress! Of course she'd seen a mouse! With a huff she turned to revisit the scent once more, preparing to approach the next step and actually track the thing. She'd track it, catch it, kill it, and show her dad that not only had she seen a mouse but she could kill one, too!

With her nose to the ground the puppy stalked forward, sniffing so hard the blades of grass were nearly pulled into her nostrils with each breath. The trail was faint and hard to follow, but the hint of blood would be enough to keep Vanta moving forward diligently toward it.
