As Seere makes her round, checking on all of the wolves to make sure they are following along, the small healer pauses at her mother’s station. Rava returns the nuzzle and the girl’s heart lifts as she offers her mother a bright smile before moving next to Saia. Her smile widens and she dips her head in thanks, inspecting her sister’s work and offering praise before leaving to return to her station. Once she is behind her station, the girl turns her gaze to the gathered wolves and happily says, “Okay! Now, I bet you are all wondering why we are gathered around this fire. Well, now is where it comes into play. Everyone will take their metal pots filled with the mixture over to the fire. Place them on the metal grate near the edges of the fire. Do not put them toward the middle.”
Grabbing her pot, Seere moves to the grate that rests over the fire and demonstrates by placing the pot on the outer edges of the fire. Looking around, she explains, “The reason we are putting them on the outside is so that we can warm the herbs without burning them. Keep them on the heat until they become aromatic.” Mismatched gaze moves to the young Verity and she offers a wink before saying, “Aromatic is just another word for really strong smelling.” Looking back to her ingredients, she gives the pot a couple shakes to move the herbs around before the air fills with the smell of turmeric, ginger, and eucalyptus. Inhaling the spicy, yet comforting, aroma, she says, “Smell that? That is what we are looking for.”
Carefully, she removes the herbs from the heat, returning to her station and placing it down. Looking up, Seere smiles and says, “Now, to finish the poultice, we take the long strip of cloth that is provided…” Paws pick up the cloth and shows it to the class before laying it flat on the station and continuing, “Unfold the middle and place your warmed herbs in. Then, roll the sides in, over the herbs and there you have it! Your very own poultice!” Holding up the finished product, she shows it to the class before saying, “You have all been very patient with me and I want to thank you for listening! If, after everyone finishes making their poultices, anyone wants to stay and try applying them to others, feel free to stay behind, I will help you. Otherwise, you are free to go about your day. Thank you!”
Stepping away from her station, Seere moves around the stations, checking in with the wolves and seeing if anyone needs a little extra help.
Seere has a male Pallas's cat named Paunch and a female barn swallow named Aisling. They are always nearby.
