Cairo flashed the pup a quick grin, remarking, “That’s a cool tail.” He couldn't help it; raid or no raid, he liked kids, and the tail blade was a cool feature he hadn't seen before.
Cai sought to sidestep to his own right just beyond the boy’s range, evading the slash, if it had actually been an attack, but better safe than sorry, letting Enito step in from just behind Cairo to his left with a sharp downward swing of the sapling staff he liked carrying about most days, aiming to crack the end down between the pup’s eyes, hard enough to hurt and probably bruise the boy’s face, but not enough to seriously damage the child if it landed.
