Just was a strange concept, at least in her head. They'd been just friends before, but was it ever just? That seemed to minimize things, at least as far as Hazel could tell. They weren't just friends, they were best friends. They kept each other safe. They'd been through a lot, in more ways than one. They'd seen everything and been everything to each other and now? Now there was more than just that. Oh he said... was he mad? Fuck. Fuck, had she ruined everything?

Okay, apparently not. The nudge, and softly she peered back up. They're a breath apart again, and it was like all the air had been sucked out of her lungs. He met her here, and there it was. Things that Hazel herself wasn't even sure she was capable of feeling until now. Wars were fought, time and time again, over feelings just like this. Now she understood why. Like her soul was on fire. Every nerve ending in her body was alive, and so was she. Leaning into Bas resting against him, relying on every bit of him to keep her together and keep her up. This was different than anything that had come before, but it would change all the things after. Hazel couldn't help but be excited about that, too.

She tucked in closer to Bas, clinging to him. Holding to him. In that moment it's just the two of them, and nothing else mattered.
