Danger Comes

Corbie sat up from her reclined position in the hide shepherd's shelter in the pasture, eyes narrowing as an errant breeze brought a scent to her nose. Coyotes - several of them, and well within Avalon's lands. The very newest lambs from the last couple days and their mothers were still tucked into the barn out of the chill, but there were slightly older lambs frolicking in the herd at that moment, particularly vulnerable to predation. A sharp motion of her head brought Ren to her side, and with the dog at her heels she slunk quietly around the flock, seeking the source of that scent. She was concerned - a large enough pack of the hungry scavengers could overwhelm just her and Ren, but if she called out for one of the pack's guardians to help, the clever tricksters would just melt away to strike again when she wasn't aware of them... she would just have to hope that someone was nearby to hear the tussle. She paused, ears flicking forward as she caught sight of the first of several coyotes emerging from the taller grass outside the pasture.
