No sleep, only play!

By now, Rogue was enrapt by Venom's story of the cataclysm that had come long before his time, listening with wide eyes and erect ears as he stared up at his mother, nestled into the fur of her chest as he fought to keep his amaranth eyes open for just a little bit longer so he could hear more of the tale. Despite his best efforts, sleep was gradually creeping up on him, and the once feisty and rebellious puppy was beginning to relax and grow heavier atop his mother without even realizing it. Still, he listened with all his attention paid to Venom while she painted the scene for him. The Empress, a mere pup, faced with a sea of ash and fire, while her own mother and Rogue's grandmother had barely made it back. But she hadn't left Ashen alone that day. Rogue's breathing caught, the worry evident in his eyes. Despite knowing the outcome of this story for his mother, he was still clinging to the edge of his seat, tiny paws kneading and combing anxiously through Venom's monochromatic fur. Though a pup, Rogue was not innocent to the concept of death. That was how they ate, after all, by killing prey animals. But to hear it told in relation to wolves... to his family...

"What happened to grandpa...?" he asked with a hint of trepidation in his youthful voice. The boy had an inkling of what the answer would be, but a morbid curiosity and a thirst to hear more of the story compelled him to ask. As he waited for his mother's response, he thought more of how his family had survived, fleeing to higher ground in the Redwater Rocks. He was slightly disappointed to hear that his sire hadn't been a part of this story, since he just always thought of his parents as being together forever and always, but it did make him all the more curious about where his father came from. "How did everyone else survive?" he asked, trying his best to stifle a yawn and failing terrifically. "There was lots of fire, right? How did the fire stop?"
