She found herself spending more and more time within the confines of the woods. There was enough brush to hide in if she got scared. The trees were tall enough to create shade from the burning summer sun. Prey was more abundant here and her pack mates were scarce. Honestly, the only ones she truly noticed were the ones who patrolled and the small groups out to go hunting. Otherwise, she was often alone out here and in some ways, that was comforting. Out here, when she wasn't being given a task, she could do whatever she wanted. Which is one of the reasons she was out in the woods that morning. With her haunches in the air and her chest on the ground, the chocolate-coated wolf stared patiently at a hare. Its nose twitched and ears moved as it munched upon some nettle leaves. Her own body, frozen in place, tensed as she breathed as silently and slowly as possible. Her toes dug into the ground as her chin rested against the itchy dirt. She had to prove she was good enough to stay within the Armada pack somehow and maybe hunting was her thing. Already, from what spars she had witnessed, she knew fighting was not going to be it. The idea that she would have to fight another wolf was disgusting and frightful to her. She tried to do some healing with Halo and really couldn't get into that either. The whole business behind bandaging and looking at blood and open wounds made her queasy. Yet, the idea behind chasing down an animal to eat afterward wasn't so disgusting. She could enjoy the idea of a chase. Running as fast as she could to catch up to something and take it down was thrilling in a way. Plus, as she paused now, ready to pounce on the hare, she was enjoying it. Patience came easily to her and she could wait here all day, still as can be, for the perfect moment. |
