Will you watch the fireflies with me?

All around him the flicker of fireflies lit his way. Ambling through the tall grasses, Scald had not a care in the world that night. While he was supposed to be out scouting the other packs for his father, he would rather find a place to rest and have a drink. The pound hanging off his shoulder was feeling awfully heavy by that point. He could head out to a pack’s borders tomorrow anyway. Sufficed to say, Scald had had it for the night. Gathering what dry wood he could find, he found a relatively open area beneath the sweeping branches of a large willow. Hidden just enough that he shouldn’t be attacked, the midnight and colored boy got to making his fire. Honestly, he hated it, but his companions couldn’t help. Wings and scales weren’t great at making fires. Once the small fire began to crackle and pop with evaporating water sizzling along the wood, he settled in. Pulling out the dried meat and bottle of booze from his pouch, he slumped down beside his fire and began to relax. Sipping from his bottle, he looked up to the leaves above him. Fireflies dipped in and out of the branches as lazily as he had ambled into the woods. Content to spend his night half-drunk and alone, Scald leaned back on his shoulder and continued to drink.
