Sister Time!

Excited filled Elowen’s chest now that they arrived. Callie seemed delighted with the place she’d found, and Puff hadn’t raised any objection. The little stoat was there to make sure they stayed out of trouble, and her own companion, Hot Mama, flew above the girls to offer a second set of watchful eyes. El’s tail sways back and forth behind her and she flicks her gaze back to the woods. Fog rolls in close to the ground and a thicker canopy makes it appear darker, almost creepy. But Elowen is not afraid of that appearance. To her the woods do not seem scary, but interesting. What secrets could such a place hold? Her sister bounds forward and Elowen kicks off to join her. “Right behind you sis!”

The first thing Elowen notices as they move under the canopy is how limited the light here truly is. It goes from shade to darker, her dual colored eyes shining in the dark. The trees here appear warped, twisting to the sky where their leaves work together to create a thick canopy. Scents of different creatures float to them through the mist, and she can hear the sounds of rodents scurrying in the undergrowth. Elowen begins to slow, ears perked forward as her gaze peers through the mist. Grunts, growls, plants shifting. Her heart beats within her chest as her gaze settled on something on a nearby tree.

“Callie look!” A lizard was on the roots. He was a mix of green and brown color wise, his eyes large. He was creeping towards the trunk at a slow pace. Had he seen a bug that he wanted? She heard Hot Mama shift in the trees above as she landed on a branch and muttered to herself. Elowen looked over at her sister, tilting her head to the side. “What kind of lizard do you think that is? Seems odd that it’s living somewhere so dark.”
