It is the alarmed call of her companion that has Charlie spin, guarded at first by the call, but seeing the child his fur lays flat immediately. Silveris circles back to him, the shrike curious, but she lands on Charlie’s back as he slowly approaches the girl. She was guarded, and, to show that he was no threat, Charlie lowered himself to the snow, keeping his expression gentle and welcoming. Even still, he leaves distance between them. She is guarded for a reason and the young man does not wish to add to that.

She had the scent of a pack on her. It was worrying that a youngster would be on her own, but if she was related to his family in some way, courage no doubt ran through her.
