What had seemed easy prey was quickly protected, and the bear gave a grunt as a larger wolf put itself between him and the pup. Lips lifted to reveal teeth, but by then blades were already cutting into its face. The bear roared and rose on its hind paws as blood fell into its eyes. Gavroche, who had been surprised by Dusk’s sudden arrival, had been frozen at first. But realizing she was here, and that she was going to fight with him gave the small child all the courage he would need. Gavroche kept his wings close to his body as he darted around Dusk’s body and fearlessly moved on the outside of the bear. He knew Dusk’s weapon was sharp, she had warned him not to play with it and Gav had listened. But he had to help her beat the bear! With a snarl, wanting to protect his friend, the boy dove at the bear’s ankle and chomped as hard as he could as it staggered. Thankfully he was small enough to ride on the top of its paw as he spread his legs a bit to maintain his balance. He was doing it! He was going to be a fighter, just like Dusk!
