The bear didn’t seem to feel his teeth, but Gavroche would not release his hold. He growled around the fur, but the bear was focused on the larger threat. He could only hear the wounds of the fighting as he shook his head back and forth, worsening the tiny wound he was making. But then things got really, really loud. There was a cracking sound, then a roar of pain. From the corner of his eye Gavroche saw Dusk get flung and he felt anger rise. No! The bear was going to hurt her! It was running, and Gav, using his dexterous paws, clung to fur as he started clawing up the bear’s leg. It was almost at Dusk when Gavroche reached his target; the bear’s shaft. “No hurt Dusk!” The bear probably didn’t hear him, but it felt where Gavroche’s teeth sank this time. The boy was left hanging on a veeeery sensitive area as the bear shrieked, now moving more like a bucking mustang as it tried to dislodge the puppy from his junk. Gavroche could feel blood in his mouth, but the pup held on for all he was worth. The bear was not going to hurt Dusk!
