ultimately, inevitably

Hanako didn't feel threatened, even though on some level of reasoning she knew he was dangerous. That his shark teeth were not simply for show. She could see that though, she supposed there was a loss of face in giving something or someone up. An exchange that left them empty-handed, with a slight to their pride. And perhaps the years had made her unkind, maybe she'd been mean all along, but she couldn't help but look at the past through jaded lenses. There was so much she thought she deserved and it felt unfair that the world hadn't been laid at her feet. Some would say her best years were long gone, that she didn't have much of a right at all to be picky, but Hanako certainly didn't feel that way. She refused to, because if she didn't she'd be forced to listen to the music, to see the ruin her choices and inaction had caused.
"I should hope so." Hanako said, raising her snout, all haughty and proud, but not without a slight lilt of humour in her tone. In truth, she liked the attention, she'd wilted without it. Was it so wrong of her to chase the sun? "And I suppose you know a thing or two about how to treat a woman." It was a statement, with maybe just a tinge of judgement sprinkled in. She didn't know much about Fenmyre', but the time they had met he smelled of many a woman.
Though she also supposed if she could have gotten away with it, it wouldn't have been so bad for her to smell of so many men (or women) either, would it?
Her issue, dumbed down to its simplest form was that she was a cake eater. Couldn't keep it and eat it too, and in the end the cake had been smushed, then taken away. Leaving her with smeared cream and a mess to clean up.
"I doubt it though," she said somewhat airly, frustrating trickling through. "People talk and none of it was any good."
