Auriga lowered herself down; her belly scratched against the pitchdark floor, and she dragged herself forward with quiet, careful movements. There was no light around her, of course. Just the long-stretching darkness that settled in and drove her to crawl further into its depths. She could hear squeaking. Interminable little squeaking and squealing. Her entire world became nothingness, became darkness that stretched forever. Auriga loved it.
She raised her head and wriggled free of the low entrance, stepping into the room, stepping beyond. She couldn't see a damned thing, but she stood, silent, in the darkness. Something ahead of her rustled, and Auriga keened her senses to it, ears swiveling forward. The dark-coated wolf stood quietly until she felt something rustle up against her fur. There! The batter of leathery wings. She jerked her head forward and missed the first snap. Of course she did, there in the dark. But there was plenty of time left... and the little creatures of the dark would investigate her. |
