My knight in broken armor

As soon as Strai scooped her up with his paws, Delphi welcomed it by curling up into his forelegs and against his chest. Tilting her chin up to look at him, she smiles wide enough to show her teeth as he asks if trouble just had a way of finding her. "Just call me Bad Luck Charm," she says in response as she lets out a quiet laugh.

It is then that she closes her eyes, unable to look at him for fear that she'll see the real emotion. Turning her face so that it is snuggled into his fur, she breathes in his scent deeply. Oh, how she wanted to say sorry over and over again until he knew she meant it. "I-I don't like scaring you," Delphi's voice is a bare whisper as her paws dig into his skin. How did they come to this? Had they not started by hating each other? Had he not almost let her fall to her death? And now she was curled up in his arms?
