Basilisk felt his mouth start to open in surprise. If he was about to speak, he couldn’t fathom what words he would use. After a moment, he closed his mouth again. After all Azure’s speak about walking away to get himself in order before he destroyed the Armada - his whole life's work had been the Armada. He had worked his way into position to lead it beside his own father. As far as Basilisk knew, that had been Azure’s greatest ambition in life. Now… now he was leaving it all behind?
He didn’t know what to think.
He had thought, fleetingly, that he had his father back. The relationship might be strained, and full of tension, but he thought he had been given the time to see it heal. To build something of it. Now to learn his father had no intention of coming back to them? He thought back over the other wolf's words. How, on hearing of the flood his first response had been ‘I should have been there’ So why? Why was he turning his back on them now? “I suppose your loyalty is no stronger than Dreads” He said, voice dry and humourless. “It doesn't matter. We survived the flood without you. We’ll rebuild without you too. Your loyalty to mum is probably just as flimsy, but try near the Whistling Willows if a bout of nostalgia happens to strike you.” His tone was angry, he couldn’t help it. It came to him as a second betrayal.
