The little one's were finally old enough to leave the den, and anxiety had kept Beauregard tossing and turning much of the night. He worried for them. They were vulnerable to so many things… but the knowledge they were within pack borders helped to reassure the man that things would be alright. Maybe he just wasn't ready for them to grow up yet. He had found so much joy in laying with them while they were tiny and watching them play around their home. He had so much love for them, as did Hansel, who was as much their mother as he and his mates were their parents. These children had a lot of love coming to them from different places.

He was awake by the time that Tanelan came back, and, in fact, had only just returned with what would be breakfast for their family. The okapi had been young, set outside for them to eat when they were ready. But it was time for them to see the world. As Beauregard stepped outside he spoke up as well. ”Stay away from the water. Right now it's even more cold than the air and ground, and you won't feel good at all if you fall in. We’ll teach you about swimming when it gets a lot warmer.” His stomach churned. Would they be good at swimming? He managed a smile at his kids, though he had to resist leaping forward when Button tripped. She was okay… they were all okay. He sat down, waiting to see who else would come from their home.
