Sparrow would have laughed at the way Gil sputtered over the term girlfriend if it wasn't such a serious accusation in this instance. He said he had a one night stand with a woman named Valerie. Sparrow stares at him, or maybe through him, as she waits for the logic to click into place.

“Fuckin’…she was here, Sparrow," Gil said. There it was. She believed he truly didn't know. He told her to kill the woman good and Sparrow intended to, but he said that he didn't need Mod to find out and Sparrow faltered for a second. "Hmm? Trouble in paradise?" Sparrow asked. She didn't consider herself the standard of morals or anything like that, but being married and having kids probably put a whole new layer on that. "Don't tell your... wife... that you slept with with woman that killed a lover of mine?"

Sparrow wasn't sure how to drop the next part. Gil was sitting, so she supposed now would be the right time, "And- uh- how long ago would you say you guys did it?" Sparrow spoke slowly. "Was she- I don't know- by chance pregnant already?"
