Admittedly the child had been taken in on a whim, as a temporary sort of situation until something better could be decided on. But it was clear to both of them that there was no 'something better' as Arian truly thrived within their own tight-knit family. As a second daughter, she brought a whole new dynamic to their trio - which was now a quartet. He admired her spunk and tenacity, and her ability to remain strong despite all she had gone through in her life. In a way, she reminded Maverick of himself as a child.
