It was as if she had just curled up and someone was quick in her steps behind her because before she could get fully comfortable and even realize the silhouette in the den opening she was being met with searing pain and hot blood gushing from her scruff. Without even a moment to process, she started yelping and screaming, but no one was around to hear. No one was there for her.
A part of her wondered if this was a dream, that she could shake herself awake and maybe open up her eyes to the dangers of being alone again. But as the large man pulled her from her bed and she thrashed around in his grasp was she understanding that this was far from a nightmare. She couldn't wake up. This was actually happening to her.
She was rather relentless as she fought for what she thought could be her life but she was no match for the wolf that had hold on her. She knew that, but she couldn't find it in herself to stop fighting before things got any worse. And they would, she just couldn't imagine it. If there was ever a shock of reality of how much living was worth to her it was now. She had felt so low and so little of herself just moments before that something like this may have felt like a blessing. But it wasn't. There was just nothing she could do to protect herself.
