goodbye and goodnight

The snowy chilled winds blew over him, a warning that Winter was soon approaching. He shook the gathered flakes off, padding quietly through the frozen woods. He had been in the North lands before, but it was quite some time ago...almost a year or a little less. The creatures that stalked these lands were unknown to him now as opposed to the great Gargoyle he had heard of. Still, he loved the snow, and nothing would stop him from further exploring the North lands he had gotten lost in upon landing in Alacritis. Cold air blew from his lungs, he could see it each time it escaped his nostrils. He would probably have to find some place to bunk down for the night, but where? He moved alongside an area where rocks gathered to make overhangs and small dips in the earth. Glancing around, the night sky sparkled with bright white stars against the dark blanket that enveloped the world.
Scents would reach him, causing the young man to change course. He slowed his steps, however, becoming wary that this might be pack lands. It had been a very long time since he smelled packs, and it made him much more wary now. He continued along the edges of the overhangs, slipping in shadows and snow banks. Luckily his coat was a light color with black smudges, so those would appear as nothing more then shadows when he moved. He moved away from the mingled stronger scents, the sleek body moving closer to a different one...a male. Carefully, he slipped closer to the scent to investigate. And soon, he saw a figure sitting and staring at the sky as he peered over the ledge. Curious, he would risk making nothing more then a whisper. Some type of contact, as he hadn't spoken to another soul in over a season. "Psst...hey you. Where am I, and who're you?" He wanted to ask about all the strange new scents in the area, seeming like they were completely different since the first time he had come by here...the whole area smelled sinister. Smelled of blood and depression, the earth itself seemed to be weeping for the land under the new kings rule. He would keep his body pressed low to the ground, a layer of snow partially covering his top side so that anyone passing behind could not see nor smell him.
