. FACTA NON VERBA .

Zeke grumbled to himself. The usually jovial, happy-go-lucky wolf found himself in a black humor. His impulses had gotten him into this, his damn impulses. Why on earth and in every realm of hell had he wandered away from his marvelous coastlines. Why?! Oh yes, the adventure of it all. The blasted, bloody adventure. Well at the moment he was just trying to get home. That was proving more difficult than he would have hoped, thanks to this damnable snow storm. Why the gods would ever inflict such a thing on their own realm was beyond him. Certainly they were cruel indeed. He was as much a wolf as the next; four legs, a tail, pointed ears, sharp teeth, but that did not mean he was impervious to the cold. He could not remember a time he had been more than a league away from the temperate ocean air. He had grown used to its smell, its moisture, its warmth. Ah the warmth.

As it stood, he was not so certain he would ever feel it again. The winds whipped around him, dug into his skin, bit at it. He was about to find a tangle of roots to curl up in when his hind leg slipped out from underneath him. He gasped and cursed, scrabbling at the ground, trying to heave himself back upwards. What the hell? he thought, pulling away. He turned around to find himself staring into the roof of a cave. He gasped once more, this time out of joy. A cave! he thought joyfully. Sounds like shelter to me! Zeke, vitality restored, pressed his nose into the wind, searching for the dank, moist smell that would lead him to an entrance. It was harder than he expected, but eventually he came upon it's gaping maw. Unfortunately, it did not smell as empty as he had hoped. "Hello?" he called out, taking a few steps inside to get out of the wind. His voice rang back at him, louder than he'd expected. He tensed, waiting for a response of any kind.
