Living in the dark had created a strange mindset within the pale-coated man; fear was a constant in his mind, a state of being rather than an emotion, and facing off with a stranger was no different. Everyone was to be feared and everyone was a threat, even if they tried to come across as anything but. His nose wrinkled, testing the female's scent as much as he could before she made the first move.

He stiffened just a bit before she attacked, not wanting to be knocked completely off-balance. Still he could never quite anticipate the force with which an opponent used and he had to react swiftly, trying to splay his toes out a bit to maintain his balance as he found his lighter form pulling backwards against her. Though he stumbled, he managed to catch his balance with one of his hind legs and he tried hard not to be taken down right away.

A low growl bubbled up within his chest, a sound that could be easily mistaken as sheer adrenaline of a fight that was beginning. His own attack matched the intensity of hers as he kicked off with his back legs and aimed for her. At least where he thought she was. The closest body part that he aimed for was her shoulder, which he'd put great force into as he tried to grab and hold the flesh there, giving his head a hard shake. Not trying to inflict much damage, just enough to ensure a victory.
