Veigar's own interest in fighting stemmed from personal ambitions as well, though his were not quite like Atreyu's. Rage was what fueled him, not at anyone in particular but at the world itself - he envied what had been stolen from him, envied the light in which everyone else lived while he had been plunged into darkness.

Though his fighting style tended toward chaos, he knew he had to be relatively defensive before he figured out the sort of wolf he was fighting against. It was impossible for him to know whether he'd be grappling with someone much bigger than him; or someone who had the power of agility on their side. Being more cautious right away before shifting into a more aggressive pose seemed to work well for him. Immediately upon contact he was able to tell this female was fairly big, certainly heavier than he was, and he'd adjust accordingly - making sure his toes were splayed uncomfortably wide to keep traction on the ground, keeping his body weight low and centered. Losing balance could be the death of him, not necessarily in this moment but eventually.

Miraculously his bite landed, his teeth finding purchase and bearing down there. The hold didn't last for long though, as he instinctively released his grip when her own bite found purchase. His scruff landed hard between her jaws and she shook her head, sending a wave of slight pain through him. Not enough to disable him entirely, but enough to make his focus shift for a second. Instead of giving up entirely he'd reel back for a moment before shoving forward hard - hoping to push his weight roughly into the bite and disrupt Atreyu's balance.
