Arató hung on the elks words, his ears twitching atop his skull. He all but swooned at the trees as the bull spoke. His tail swayed behind him, clearing dirt and pine needles from where he sat. “Redwoods,” he repeated wistfully. He imagined pinecones falling from such a height. He imagined the years of progression of the miniscule seeds from sapling to giant, the centuries it must have taken. “Older than mountains. It is no wonder they grow so”. After a moment he let his silver gaze drop back to the elk, his tongue still lolling goofily from between his teeth. His company seemed to look at him as if questioning whether they had given a sufficient answer. “I cheerish the knowledge of the woodland king” he chimed, for their answer had greatly pleased him.
The fiery lad could sense the tension in his company. The elk still seemed ready to flee if the situation required it. Partly attempting to relieve some tension, partly as an outlet for his own antsy whims, Arató turned away from the elk and dropped rather unceremoniously to the ground. He rolled himself over in the debri of the forest floor before jumping back to his paws with a sneeze. He didn't bother to shake out the dirt and pine needles from his coat. The boy cast his silver eyes back to the elk with a sway of his tail.
