Lucette had seen him, a glimpse of her son when he had mapped the terrain of her captors. The woman hadn’t said anything, hadn’t shown any signs of knowing someone was there. She knew that Gavroche had let her see him on purpose, a sign of reassurance that help would soon be on the way. Lucy had no doubts that the moment Bae-Syl got the news he would be on his way here, and with it would follow the fury of a man who would destroy everything to protect those he loved. All she needed to do was bide her time until he arrived, and continue to ensure that these brutes did not get the easy pickings that they hoped she’d be.
If it hadn’t been for Beauregard, and attempting to help her packmate, Lucette wouldn’t have been caught at all. They had been jumped, and she had every opportunity to run while he fought, but the idea of leaving him there was unthinkable. Fangs flashed and snarls rang out as they beat the man down, and Lucette, though she too had fought, had been restrained under the threat of them killing Beau if she didn’t cooperate. So she played nice until they got her here. Any males that had tried to get close were met with fire and venom. Loyal to Bae, she refused to allow any of these bastards the satisfaction of taking her.
With as much blood as she spilled for her size, she was placed in a “special” lockdown area alongside some other wolves. The others were all men, fighters that had proved themselves dangerous. All of them had been starved to break their spirit and sap their energy, but Lucette hadn’t reached the point of breaking yet. She conserved her energy, scarfed what little they gave her to keep her alive. She knew Bae-Syl would come. He’d come and these bastards would pay for what they had done. She had no idea what had happened to Beauregard, if he was still here… she could only pray that he was.
A commotion drew the attention of guards, snarls ringing out from across their camp. Lucette sat up, ears pricked forward as a smile touched her fast. She knew, even without seeing him, that it was Bae-Syl. “Get them, love.” He was going to be in a shit state after fighting so many… hopefully these slavers had the brains to keep some herbs around for themselves. Wingbeats caught her attention, gaze shifting to Ruby as the bird landed on the cage and pulled the mechanism that kept it closed from the outside. Like a shot, Lucy bolted from the wooden structure. “Thanks Ruby!” She knew Bae-Syl would want her away from the fighting, but she wanted some revenge on those who had stolen her freedom.
Paws hit the earth hard as she charged toward the sounds of the fighting, bracing herself for what she might see.
