She grunted her pain as her paw pad throbbed, but at least she sent him off course. At least for a moment. As she kept weight off her throbbing paw for a moment, he had managed to come in and overtake her. She was thrown off balance, and her foot did not return to the ground fast enough. She barely lifted her head out of the way, but his teeth pinched the skin beneath her throat and she stumbled over herself before she could swat him away, effectively dropping to the ground in a heap.
