The alpha males exerted all their strengths against one another’s might, but in the end it was the titan of a brute that won out, Artorias managing to overpower Eltrys and, with a quick flourish of footwork and a strong yank, he threw Eltrys off his feet and had his opponent on the ground. Artorias moved to pin his opponent into submission to secure his victory and once Eltrys had submitted he let the other wolf leave the battlefield, adrenaline coursing through his veins with every powerful thrum of his heart. Giant paws crunched through the snow and ice as he made his way over to collect his fallen sword, reaching down to grasp the hilt—and then pausing as a familiar voice called out to him as if in a memory.
Artorias froze, head turning and gaze lifting to follow a pair of dark paws up long legs dressed in a coat of ember-like fur. Blazing amber eyes rose to meet the matching gaze of a wolf he hadn’t seen in some time, but one that could never leave his memory. Despite the battles raging around them, it was as if time paused for the moment between them. A cold wind tousled both of their coats, bringing her scent along with it. There was no denying this was no trick of his mind, and speaking her name solidified that fact for him.
"Lia…" So this was where she had ended up… So close to home, and yet he’d wondered if he’d ever see her again. He got his answer to that when Lia came closer to touch his shoulder, that physical contact confirming she was real. His heart was still pounding with adrenaline, but in this moment he felt like he was in the eye of a hurricane, in a moment of stunned solace amidst combat. And then Lia shoved her shoulder against his, and the eye passed and the storm resumed. Artorias blinked in surprise, the realization slowly dawning on him that right now Lia was his opponent. His shock was broken, and it was a split second later he saw her antlers coming for his head. Art reeled back, backpedaling to avoid getting clocked in the head. The shock vanished, and then he was the Lord of Cinder again.
Artorias’ eyes narrowed with steely focus as he flashed a playful grin at Lia, the lopsided smile easy on his face. "Watch where you’re swinging those things. You’ll put someone’s eye out," he teased her, muscles tensed, reflexes tightened. He lunged forward before she could fully recover from her swing, aiming to close their distance with swift paws to prevent her from being able to use her antlers effectively. A benefit of being married to an antlered fae was knowing how to counter said antlers. Art sought to use his larger size to push his chest into Lia’s to throw her off balance, powerful jaws aiming to latch onto any part of her antlers he could grab in an attempt to take control over her head and prevent her from attacking with them.
