The hit came hard. His right shoulder slammed into her left rear with surprising force, unbalancing her for a brief moment, the impact of the pauldron sending a shock of pain through her side. His teeth grazed her just as she twisted, avoiding a deeper grip on her spine by jerking her body in the opposite direction. She wasn’t down yet.

With a quick pivot, Ellara aimed to capitalize on her momentum, twisting her body further to the left to evade his grasp while snapping her own jaws toward his exposed shoulder. Her aim wasn’t to cause severe harm but to force him to relinquish his hold. Her fangs aimed to sink into the thick muscle there, hoping to shake him off before he could lock her down. She could feel the fire in her veins, every heartbeat pulsing with the rhythm of battle.
