The flurry of combat helped Takeji center his mind. There was no time to fret about the past or the future when he was so firmly grounded in the now. The older shewolf took his hit just as he had weathered hers, and as the two faced off again he finally began to feel some of the thrill he could see so clearly in the other wolves surrounding them. Was it like this all the time for some? He found that hard to believe, but he'd take it while it lasted.

His pale opponent faced off with him, both head on, and he read the oncoming charge as soon as she began to put it into motion. He half expected another slam but was surprised when she instead lifted up on her hind legs and attempted to wrap him in her forepaws. His instinctive reaction was to recoil but he didn't want to give up any ground, a firm and centered base was always the best defense, so he braced all four of his paws. And as her height gave her opportunity to chew on his ears, his eyes locked instead on the soft flesh of her neck which she had very kindly left open for him.

His teeth snapped forward, hoping to find the skin beneath the fur. He wouldn't clamp down, wouldn't rip and tear because after all this was only a friendly engagement. But he wanted to grab and hold, to make it clear that if he found his mark he could. At the same time he pushed forward, hoping to drive his weight against her while unbalanced on her two hind paws.
