One foot on the ground, one foot in the grave

It was strange, the low rumbling of the ground, it had roused him from his sleep and had him looking about, listening and…squinting? Even at night it was rarely this dark, this unnervingly still. The earth shook, trembling with the deep baritone growl it made and Lathan rose to his paws. Ears pricked forward and then fell back, frowning. Silver gaze lifted up to the sky, the stars were darker, the moon, so dim. He began moving, unknown to him, he moved right towards the center of…whatever was going on. As morning crested the horizon, he would grow still, his hackles rising as a sensation rolled down his spine. This was…unusual. The sky was blood red, not as it normally was as the sun rose. No, this was different, it cast a different hue on the ground. A hue he was both drawn to and repulsed by. Tongue rolled nervously over his lips as he continued forward. It wasn’t long before he realized he was not alone. A wolf- nay, correction a tiny wolf was not far to his right. He regarded her, his smoky colored pelt looking far darker and richer in the reddened light. "Excuse me, miss!" He called, voice rising enough to reach her as he turned towards the she-wolf. As he approached, he noted the horns upon her skull and his head cocked to the side curiously. That was…unique. "Do you know…?" He trailed, gesturing around them. Maybe she knew what was going on? Her sure didn’t. |
