Strai hadn’t expected to startle her. It had been a long while since he’d been able to sneak up on her. But it was something about this place, this land. It had them on edge, though neither easily spoke of fear. Instead, she grinned at him, and her words had him snorting. “Never.” he agreed easily.

She darted between her legs, and kept going. He jumped to catch up with her, his long legs easily swallowing the distance. He tried to ignore the way the wind howled through the strange stone spikes. “Bet you wouldn’t carve something on one of the spires…” he dared her as they walked.
