Gwyn smiled as Sprig took a moment to enjoy the scent of the flower, but once her niece told her that she didn't know what it was she began to explain, "This is called Marigold. The petals are a good option to add in to a treatment for a burn, cut, or sting to help it heal. It's a more common plant and they're very easy to spot so it's a good once to know in case you're ever out somewhere and need to put together a quick first aid solution and don't have supplies with you. You could have someone chew on them to help with a sore throat or gum pain. Plants can be fairly bitter though so if that's what I'm using it for I'll usually just make an extract and add it to honey to make it a little easier to take." Right next to the marigold was another flowering plant and Gwyn gestured to it, showing Spriggan the cluster of tiny red flowers. There was a larger portion of the flower bed taken up by this one. "This one is called valerian root. The root of this plant is really what we're after so I have to have more of this growing at a time and I re-plant it frequently, unlike the marigold that will continuously grow flowers we can harvest. Because of that I don't use valerian root as often, but it's a good option for any patients that are dealing with a cough, headaches, or insomnia. You have to be careful how much you use though because this one can upset a patient's stomach if they're given a lot of it."
