Mortis ignored the conversations around him as movement coalesced into something far more volatile. Ludovic moved behind him and Deluge, and he lowered one of his wings, sheltering the pup from the view of the strange flower-like worm that sighted them.

He did not know or trust what the small wolf Nimue would do, but Delphi? Perhaps he could count on her to help him defend the small. “Offensive or defensive?” He asked her, voice soft as his lips barely moved. His eyes never strayed from the predator in front of them. He was willing to take her lead.
