Spriggan wasn’t an expert on the psychology of cape hunting dogs, but she knew they were a lot like wolves. They even had a better hunting success rate than wolves did. Which made their intervention even more dire. If the tiny unicorn donkey, for he had long soft ears pinned against his skull, had any friends they were long gone by now.
When Titus spied her, he seemed to put his head down and fight even harder. He took all the attention on himself, bringing him much pain and injuries. "Watch out, Titus!” She yelled with concern as she skittered away from one of the dog’s jaws. As she worried that her brother would succumb, the creature they were trying to save to begin with joined the fray and speared one of the dogs with its sharp horn. As it yelped in panic that seemed to alert the rest of the pack, who seemed far less eager to continue their hunt with one of them so wounded.
