In an almost cartoonish fashion, Maki was walloped backwards and sent flying. She landed on her belly, the soft pin skin rubbed raw by the rocks as it started to bleed. She winced as she raised herself on wobbly paws, tears stinging at her eyes-arguably it was a rather superficial wound, but it hurt. Her her stories her characters always shrugged off injuries, barely even reacted to them, but it was all Maki could think about. Distracting and painful, she quickly shook her head as if to fling the sensation aside, she had to focus, not get distracted. Too much was at stake.
She leapt forward again, saw that Alexandrite had some success in trying to yank off some of its shell and followed suit- hoping she at least looked sort of badass as she did it.
