Xairo's eyes widened in surprise as the small girl darted between his legs with unexpected speed. He felt a sharp nip at his ankle, followed by a searing pain across his chest. Anger flared within him, both at the audacity of this little upstart and at his own carelessness.

Spinning around with a snarl, Xairo lunged at Selene, his larger frame giving him the advantage of reach. He snapped his jaws, hoping to catch her by the scruff and pin her to the ground. To further drive home the fact that she was too little and she didn’t belong here. And of course, to give himself the satisfaction of doing so.
