Panic had driven him forward, rendering him unawares to the form of the black figure while the fox was hot on his heels. At the last moment he skidded into the snow as a large figure came bursting towards him, soaring effortlessly over the cub as he landed behind Rin. The boy huddled behind the male, and within moments the scuffle had died down and the males voice met his ears. Slowly he would raise his head, glancing past the males legs to see the creature lie motionless. Yet he had heard the words "sleep well." Had the male gotten the fox to sleep somehow?
"I'm a-alright, thank you sir..." he extricated himself from the snow, shaking off the bits that coated him as he tried to calm his racing heart. Staring up at the man he wondered who exactly he was. Rin had seen him briefly when the fighters returned from the war, but he wasn't exactly sure who he was...
His translucent green gaze swept up to the older males dual casted eyes, and Rin nodded in confirmation to the question. "A fox...I've never seen one. Is he asleep now?" he would ask in curious innocence, as death was not yet a part of his life.
