Unconscious Search
The last of the storm clouds had at last tapered away and with them went the only thing keeping Callisto within the Red Forest that had become her new home. Or, in actuality, her old home. She had always supposed herself to be more attached to the old forest as opposed to the mangrove field her odd family had moved into after the loss of their home. Being back should have pleased her, should have made her satisfied and content. Instead all she felt was a bizarre strangeness and confusion.
Rather than deal with it, the spindly black and grey youth made it a point to leave as often as she could, undergoing an unconscious search for a place where she felt comfortable and content. Nothing so far near home had been appealing to her and so her ventures were bringing her further away, but, as she figured, if she kept searching long enough she was bound to come across some place that fit what she wanted, right?
It was this subconscious mission that brought her to the edge of the gorge, the pup's silvery blue eyes squinting as she peered downward into it. From where she was it seemed nice, plenty of short, green vegetation rustling under the inconsistent pressures of the wind. A little touch of color captured the girl's attention as she stared, pink and white against the dusty green. A flowering plant? Something for fragrance or perhaps something with another more important purpose? Endlessly curious when it came to plants and potential herbs to add to her small arsenal, Callisto wasted no more time beginning the slow and careful trek from the edge to where the plant grew, some distance away and down the side of the gorge.
