How had she wandered so far? It seemed only a day ago that the blue and green waters of the ocean were just a thin line on the horizon. Now her ebony paws were drenched in sticky salty water and her sapphires were scrunched against the biting ocean wind. Just her luck.
Natana had her regular bag of herbs bound to her right hind leg in case she needed them, as always. She had been trained to be prepared for any situation, but it seemed that ever since she came to Alacritis she hadn't needed it at all. She had hardly encountered any wolves who needed her expertise. Honestly it was quite a bit insulting.
"Not like they don't need me..." she muttered to herself, kicking a pebble that crossed her path. Those damn pups and young tyrants all needed proper healing, they were just careless and thought that those wounds that they so foolishly received would just go away and not affect them when they got older. They didn't know any better.
She reached the soft shoreline with a sigh of relief. The sand felt much better on her paws then the rocky landscape that led up to it. Just as she was settling her weary limbs on the sandy beach, she heard an unfamiliar sound and nearly whipped her head in the direction of its origin. What the-?
Lying with its body half in the tide and half on the beach was a creature which Natana had never seen in her long life. It seemed to be struggling with some sort of black mesh that was tangled in its...paws? fins? It had to be some sort of fish, but had no gills. It had a long and pointed muzzle with a flat flipper for a tail. Perhaps some sort of whale? The woman could see that it was in pain and that blood welled from beneath the black mesh. Should she approach it?
Instead of following her instincts to run, the ebony girl shifted her paws restlessly, unsure of her next move. It might hurt me... Oh, fuck it. I've had a long enough life.
Well toned muscles propelled her hindlegs from the sitting position and pushed her quickly across the sand towards the struggling creature. While she ran, her mind raced through possible herb poultices that may help the wounds heal before it re-entered the waves. She could mix her yarrow root with some comfrey and plantain to aid in the fast healing process and pain...but perhaps she would instead go for chamomile...
