The first thing Laufey contributed to the world was a whimper. The second thing he bestowed once his lungs were a bit clearer was a shrill cry. For the first time in his life, the newborn felt fear. He'd been afraid when his world had shifted and from there his terror had only grown. Laufey was pressed upon from all sides and then pushed into a space so wide he felt lost in its vastness. Immediately the warmth around him began to ebb and he was set upon by something large and rough, something that pressed upon him repeatedly.
The thing rolled him about, pushing and prodding until he was enveloped in warmth; not the warmth he was familiar with but a warmth all the same, and he was comforted by it. Still, he protected, whimpering each time he was bumped or prodded and it wasn't until his face was pressed into his mother's belly that Laufey was overcome with an instinct he didn't quite understand. He quieted, blindly searching with no luck before he was against pushed in the right direction. The newborn latched on and settled into contented silence, the whole scary ordeal forgotten immediately.
