The wolf beneath the tree smelled oddly, like antiseptic herbs and very faintly of blood, but he seemed happy enough to see Shay, his tail wagging and a greeting tripping from his muzzle. Shay copied his action, his gray-toned tail wagging slowly back and forth as well.

Another wolf approached as well, darker of coloring than Shay himself, and she spoke the same simple greeting Shay had chosen - it seemed he had chosen correctly after all, especially as the little wolf chimed in again, repeating the greeting twice over before another wolf joined them. This wolf questioned the little one thereby confirming Shay's suspicions that there was something unhealthy about him, then introduced himself to Shay and the female, asking if he could help them.

"No thank you, Shiloh of the Nomads, my health is not in need of assistance," he informed the wolf in his quick, nearly monotone manner, misunderstanding as he did that the wolf was not necessarily asking about his health when he'd asked that question. But to Shay it was logical - a healer asking if he needed help was obviously asking if he needed healing, which he did not.

As for the little wolf beneath the tree, his words were jumbled strangely, but Shay attributed it to a strange dialect, or simply some social norm he hadn't yet figured out, and thought little of it. "You are ill, then?" he asked him, betraying no concern, since he really felt none, but displaying his interest. He wouldn't have thought to ask if it didn't interest him, after all, and it was logical to know if the other wolf was sick in case it was contagious.

"My name is Shay Bearkiller," he added belatedly, realizing late that it might be polite to give his name, since the healer had given his.
