The white maiden trotted quickly onto the beach, looking for some water to cool her down. Even with a light coat like hers, this summer weather was becoming unbearable. Her paws moved rapidly over the hot sand, not lingering in one place for too long. Unfortunately, some of the hot little granules were getting stuck between her toes. Adelaide let out a short grunt of frustration. Oh well, she thought. I'll be in the water soon.

Her blue eyes glinted with excitement as she neared the water's edge. Just as she was preparing to jump in, a large wave came tumbling toward her. As it rolled closer, she saw a small wolf coming with it. Adelaide yelped for a moment before simultaneously colliding with the water and the stranger. She laughed with the little female and untangled herself. "I'm sorry," she giggled. "I didn't see you there, dear."

Adelaide stepped back, keeping her legs submerged in the refreshing water. Her wet tail flipped from side to side eagerly, releasing drips of water everywhere. She couldn't wait to swim around in the bay. But she stayed for a moment first, to make sure this young girl was okay. Then she sensed another wolf nearby.

She backed away slightly as she realized it was a male. She was in season, and she knew better than to be around them at this time. Her crystalline eyes were wary as she nodded at him. Still best to be polite, she reminded herself.

The male spoke, asking if he could join them in the water. Adelaide looked to the young girl at her side and adjusted her position slightly, protecting her. "Of course not. Feel free to cool off with us." She knew that it didn't matter what she was feeling. Her voice was kind and welcoming. Whether or not she felt safe was another matter for the female.
