dreams of tomorrow

"You were never selfish. I was selfish for leaving." Her words were a soft whisper into his pelt even as she felt the fur of her scruff beginning to dampen with his tears. She didn't want him to cry, she never wanted to make him cry and yet she and cried on many occasions when being reunited with him. They hadn't been entirely sad tears, mostly ones of happiness and joy so there was nothing she could hope for more then that these tears were the same. But even as they slipped down his face she would reach forward to lick at his cheeks, trying to rid them of the wetness. He was just a rouge now? Her head lifted slightly, tail managing to lick at her heels for a moment in hopeful job before dying down. She couldn't get her hopes up too high. Not yet. He was a rouge yes but would he stay with her? Did he want to stay a rouge or did the life still not suit him? Would he ask her to rejoin a pack with him? She wasn't even sure what she wanted and here she was plagued with all these questions. But it seemed that all those questions were answered with his next words and once more a soft wave of her tail would be given. "Will you... Stay with me?" She asked tentatively, reaching forward once more to lick at his chin before taking a step backwards.
She cast a glance over her shoulder, it was still a clear day and the island loomed dangerously and tantalizingly in the distance. "I have been living there. Game both small and large is plentiful and at low tide the swim is easy. But I don't care anymore either..." Her words were soft, resigned yet determined at the same time as she turned her gaze back to Talon. He looked like the sun to her, so bright with his colours or fawns and sand. Blue eyes were still full of tears and she wanted nothing more then for those to go away. "I'll go anywhere with you. Just tell me what you want me to do." She said softly, stepping forward once more to push herself into his chest, neck arching so she could press her ear against the hollow of his chest and hear the sound of his heart beat. She could have easily just drifted away to that sound, happy with the nearness of her best friend.
