Lost in the starlight

Memories haunted the golden fea, memories of fire, of ash, of storms that separated her from her remaining pack mates. She looked up toward the moon that shone down, lighting up the world around her. Here there were streams filled with clear, cool water with long, draping willow branches dipping down into the liquid. Clean, cool air drifted around her, lightly ruffling her fur. Such a drastic change from her destroyed homeland. The moonlight lit up her gold and ruby gaze, glinting lightly off the bright yellows that covered her head, forelegs, and torso. Her haunches and hind legs could have disappeared into the darkness of the night if not for the light touches of a paler gray mixed among the black. She stood in one of the shallow streams, letting the water rush over her paws. It seemed like no matter how many times she washed out her fur it still seemed like she could feel the ash clinging to her. Her expression was flat, hiding the confusion she was feeling inside. She hadn't found any of her pack mates since arriving here, wherever "here" was. Silently, she prayed that they made it out of the storm okay and that her worst fears weren't realized.
